I remember senior year of college like it was yesterday. Although I was having the time of my life, I can’t tell you how nervous and anxious I was about landing a job before graduation, not just any job, but the perfect job. But honestly the perfect job doesn’t necessarily exist right after college.
I had a basic idea of what I wanted to do once I graduated and had a few internships during college, but when I got my first job right out of school I knew it absolutely wasn’t for me. Not only was adulting the real deal (it honestly didn’t hit me until I realized we know longer have spring break and I can’t just jump on a cruise and head to Mexico with my girls) but I was having a hard time because I saw so many other people I knew doing great things and here I was unhappy. I told myself I will not work at a job that I wasn’t excited to wake up for in the morning. So I searched every right for a few months applying to job after job. Let me tell you, finding a new job is a full time job in itself.
Finally, after a couple months of searching I found the job I wanted! This job was literally what I said would be my “perfect” job, for the moment that is, and 4 years later I am still there.
Truth is you can do anything you want to do and you’ll find the job that is right for you, when it’s the right time. So try not to stress so much during your last year about having that perfect job. If you want to take a year off and backpack through Asia- do it. If you want to teach English in another country, you should! Do whatever it is you feel like doing. Now is the time! You have your whole life to work, and having a job when you get back will always be there.
